{"id":116,"date":"2018-03-22T15:16:32","date_gmt":"2018-03-22T14:16:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/test.inobox.no\/?page_id=116\/"},"modified":"2021-09-29T08:13:38","modified_gmt":"2021-09-29T06:13:38","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/inobox.no\/en\/about\/","title":{"rendered":"About the project"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Teaming up\u00a0with key industry and market players, iNOBox main goal is to integrate\u00a0in the Norwegian food industry more efficient, profitable and sustainable\u00a0processing, securing the supply of safe, high-quality and nutritious foods.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With food security set high on the socio-political agenda, innovative food\u00a0processing technologies can help to meet the demand of sustainable and\u00a0affordable healthy diets for a growing and aging population.<\/p>\n<p>The Norwegian food industry is challenged by a stringent environmental\u00a0policy, pressure on food self-sufficiency\/security, domestic market\u00a0competition, new consumption patterns &amp; low R&amp;D expenditure stifling\u00a0innovation. iNOBox represents a joint multi-actor effort towards more\u00a0efficient, profitable &amp; sustainable processing, securing the supply of\u00a0safe, high-quality &amp; nutritious foods.<\/p>\n<p>iNOBox proposes 5 market-driven\u00a0business solutions with broad transferability that integrate innovative\u00a0processing technologies (IPT) across relevant agri-food chains. iNOBox\u00a0will greatly advance cross-disciplinary knowledge base on IPT and pave\u00a0the way towards market &amp; consumer uptake. Ultimately, iNOBox will\u00a0develop an innovation e-toolbox to support IPT end-users\/manufacturers\u00a0on scientific, technical &amp; regulatory matters, consumer-centric process\u00a0innovation opportunities &amp; marketing strategies.<\/p>\n<p>Through whole value-chain\u00a0interventions, resource-efficient IPT will foster:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Environmental, economic &amp;\u00a0social sustainability towards a circular bioeconomy: better self-sufficiency, cost optimisation; 1.5-5% energy saving in the whole sector; 0.1% GHG\u00a0emission reduction in Norway,\u00a0438 MNOK\/yr consumer savings (food\u00a0waste) for each extra day&#8217;s shelf-life<\/li>\n<li>Fast-growing productivity, long-term\u00a0profitability &amp; competitiveness<\/li>\n<li>Better employability of a high-skilled\u00a0workforce in decentralised areas.<\/li>\n<li>Safer &amp; healthier IPT foods will lead to\u00a0new market shares &amp; social innovation (allergy, health promotion) and\u00a0will improve the public health system through reduced prevalence of food\u00a0allergy\/diet-related diseases, food recalls &amp; associated health\/social costs,\u00a0while contributing to food security for a growing\/ageing population.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>iNOBox\u00a0will foster international responsible research &amp; innovation, multi-actor\u00a0&amp; public engagement, science education, open knowledge sharing and\u00a0gender\/ethical integrity, towards better decision-making on sustainable\u00a0process innovation &amp; enhanced know-how\/technology transfer.<\/p>\n<p>Through cross-disciplinary research, iNOBox will greatly advance the current\u00a0knowledge on innovative technologies, such as cold plasma, pulsed electric\u00a0fields, ultrasounds, UV-light, high-pressure processing and microwaves.<\/p>\n<p>Safer and healthier foods resulting from innovative processing will improve\u00a0the public health system through reduced prevalence of food allergy,\u00a0diet-related diseases, food recalls and associated health\/social costs.<\/p>\n<p>Consumers will also benefit from reduced food waste through the extended\u00a0shelf-life of innovative foods (438 MNOK\/yr savings for each extra day of shelf-life). iNOBox outcomes will foster energy savings in the food sector\u00a0(1.5-5%), reduced gas emissions (0.1% on national level) and high-skilled\u00a0jobs in decentralised areas.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure the successful implementation of innovative processes, food\u00a0producers must be aware of their benefits (and how to communicate them\u00a0to the consumers), their suitability for different products\/applications, as\u00a0well as scientific, technical and regulatory aspects.<\/p>\n<p>iNOBox aims to develop\u00a0a web-based innovation toolbox to help food industry make informed\u00a0decisions on process innovation, overcome bottlenecks to market and\u00a0ensure innovative products reach the consumers.
